My Night At the Opera
You have probably heard all the hoopla about opening night at the Metropolitan Opera this past Monday. Well, thanks to two very generous pals, I got to go and scope out Barbarawalterskofiannantimrobbinssusansarandonjudelawdonaldtrumpleeradziwillsalmanrushdie and all the others.
The performances, costuming and acting were riveting...and the opera was pretty good, too. Many of he women turned out their vaults and bedecked themselves with gobs of fabulous jewelry. Some of them to the point of diappearing behind a wall of glitter so intense that the poor women themselves pretty much went unnoticed. That got me to thinking...
It's really about getting YOU noticed, not your accessories. I know, I know, if I had a few million dollars worth of fab jewels I'd want to show them off. But it ends up being too much -- and then nothing gets noticed. Better to show up in one really stunning piece and let the remaining simplicty speak for itself.
For example you could wear two stunning cuffs like this from Kenneth Jay Lane...

...which are an homage to Verdura, and wear one on each wrist a la Vreeland. But that's all you wear. You don't keep piling on the statements. Ideally the one or perhaps two items you wear accent you!
So as the party season approaches, be particular in your jewels -- be they diamonds or "Diamelles", it's all good as long as you make them the supporting players to your leading lady.
