For the last ten years or so I have been fascinated by Astro Gallery of Gems on Madison at 34th Street in New York City. They have every kind of crystal, gem, geode or talisman you could want. Ask for Michael. He has a great intuition for his inventory and will help you figure out the properties of different gems and crystals.
Do you feel like your chakras need aligning? They have the most adorable little mini geodes you can wear like a pendant. Need to ward off negativity and get rid of old love? Buy a chunk of smooth obsidian to carry around with you. There are prehistoric bugs in amber and these big scary looking million-year-old bugs in sandstone that would make great gifts for the guy who has everyhting.
The prices are great and the selection is vast. It's a real New York institution that has been around for decades with multiple generations running the place. Check out the fine jewelry in the back of the shop. I have my eye on several vintage pieces back there, plus they can make pretty much anything you want.
Ask for the handout that explains all the properties of various gems and crystals. Did you know that diamonds are the highest evolved gemstone and they magnify the properties of the other stones with which they are used? And here I just thought they were a girl's best friend.
