Breakfast Sausage is a Potential Fat Bomb
August 13, 2006

Last week I told you about the studies showing how higher-protein diets helped people lose weight -- which they do. I suggested lean turkey sausage for breakfast as a great slug of protein first thing in the morning. And being the kind of person who practices what she preaches, I bought organic turkey sausage the next time I was at Whole Foods. What I didn't do was look at the nutritional info. (Which is kind of surprising since I won't even eat an Altoid without knowing how many calories it has...it has 3).

Well sweet mother of pearl! Those 'healthy' free-range sausages had 150 calories each and tons of fat. And they are tiny! That should be the calorie count for two decent-sized lean turkey sausages.

So read those lables, get the reduced-fat versions, and don't think that just because something is sold at a healthy foods store that it's actually healthy.
