Waffles
August 21, 2006

I'm always telling y'all to eat breakfast. Studies show that it boosts your metabolism and keeps you from overeating later in the day. Since one of the easiest items to grab for breakfast is a frozen waffle, I decided to test some of the healthier versions out there.

Van's Carb Manager Gourmet Waffles were not so great. They fell apart in the toaster, tasted like cardboard, and were very mushy. Two Van's have 200 calories, 8 g. fiber, 12 g. protein and a whopping 13 g. fat.

Eggo also makes a Nutri Grain waffle with 140 calories for two, but the fiber, protein and fat are negligible.

Kashi GoLean -- the clear winner -- makes a really good one with 170 calories for two, 6 g. fiber, 8 g. protein and only 3 g. fat. They toast up really nicely.

Try it with all-fruit jelly instead of syrup, or melt a slice of fat free cheese on it for a bit more protein. Even better, melt the cheese over the jelly...it's sounds wierd, but it's really good!
